What’s the vibe?

This blog explores the experience of ambitious individuals living creative and entrepreneurial lives off the beaten path. Lives for which there are, by definition, no directions.

I look to explore the questions: What does it look like to do work you love every day? How do creative people gather the courage to take a nontraditional path? What mindset shifts did they have to make to get there? Have they encountered moments of uncertainty and doubt? How have they handled those moments? What have they discovered about themselves in the process of creating a life that is uniquely theirs?

In addition to writing about my own experience as a mindset coach/writer/investor, I interview all types of people inhabiting the realm of the unconventional ranging from a pop singer turned philosophy professor to a math major turned fishing captain in Alaska.

Who am I?

I am a former investor who gave up the partner track to become a mindset and performance coach. I spent three and a half years living in LA post-college before moving back to New York in 2020. In 2024, I began a new adventure and relocated to a small beach town in Florida called Rosemary Beach with my partner where we’re creating our own “No Directions” life.

I’ve written the longer form version of my story here.

I imagine a lot of you reading this have already built lives that are uniquely yours or are taking the brave step towards doing so. To create something that is uniquely yours is by definition unconventional. No one has built the life that will light you on fire before.

What I have learned is that building an unconventional life is equal parts terrifying and exhilarating. What I’ve seen in my own experience and from the lens of my clients is that it requires confronting a lot of very confronting things:

  • Gaining comfort with discomfort

  • Letting go of control

  • The fear of failure

  • The fear of what others will think about you

  • Trust in yourself

  • Disappointment after setbacks

  • Creating structure and accountability

  • Your relationship to money

  • Figuring out what is aligned with you and what isn’t

  • Unlocking barriers to creativity

When I began this journey, I wondered if anyone out there was really doing work that they were passionate about. I wondered if “okay” or “good enough” were as good as it gets for any of us. And then I looked around and I met people that showed me that it is absolutely possible to do work you’re passionate about and to create a life that is uniquely yours.

I don’t care if your dream is to build a small business in your hometown, move to Alaska and become a fishing captain, ditch your medical degree and pursue a career in film animation, self-publish a romantic comedy novel based on your relationship, or start a Christmas tree farm. I just want to support you in actually doing it. What I hope you will find here is a mix of inspiration, camaraderie, and gentle nudges to go for it :)
